What this sin looks like
When Pride comes out strongest, the axle of your judgement is your own read. Opposition and setbacks still leave the conviction that you can manage it.
This is not about looking down on people. It is a form of drive: stepping forward on your own prediction rather than the opinion around you. If the direction feels right, the uncertain parts can be sorted out on the way.
Where it shows up day to day
- Told it cannot be done, you push on if you see a way
- The final call, when you are unsure, follows your read rather than advice
- You start before the preparation is complete and tidy up while moving
- You listen to objections, but the conclusion rarely moves
Where it works as a strength
You can move at the stage where nobody is certain. Where waiting for agreement would burn the opportunity, your judgement is what carries things forward. Holding a direction without being dragged by the anxiety around you is part of the same strength.
Recovery after failure tends to be fast. A bad outcome does not invalidate the read itself, so the gap before the next move is short.
Where it spins its wheels
The stronger the conviction, the smaller the risk and the effect on others appear. The uncertain parts you meant to sort out on the way can arrive all at once.
The moment objections start sounding like noise rather than information is the signal to watch. Your read may well be right more often than not, and when it is not, the cost is sometimes carried by someone else.
How it sits with the other sins
Gloom is nearly the inverse reaction: Gloom receives and sinks, Pride does not doubt and steps out. Wrath is similar in wanting your own read to carry, but Wrath looks at the one unsettled point while Pride looks ahead.
Combined with Sloth, you keep a chosen direction for a long time without doubting it: maximum drive, minimum review.

Decide the condition for turning back before you start. "If this number drops below that, I change the plan", set in advance, lowers the risk without touching the conviction.
Collecting objections as material rather than as conclusions costs you nothing. You do not have to adopt them, so listening stays cheap.
